15th-Ranked Tigers Upset #4 Georgia,4-3, in Women's Tennis Clemson dropped the doubles point, but won flights three through six in singles to take down their fifth ranked opponent of 2010, and the highest-ranked victory since defeating #4 Georgia Tech last season. It was Clemson's first win against a top-five opponent on the road since April 9, 2006, a 4-3 win over North Carolina and the Tigers' fourth-ever win over a top-five team on the road in team history. The results of the match fell into the hands of Tiger Laurianne Henry and Bulldog Naoko Ueshima at flight five. Henry took the first set in a tie break, but fell 6-1 in the second set, evening the match. Earlier in the season, Henry had a similar opportunity against #37 Texas A&M, capping a comeback in whch the Tigers trailed 3-1. She defeated Sheri Olivier in a three-set marathon, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(4) to help Clemson advance in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Blue Devils Sweep Indiana, 7-0 The Blue Devils continued their dominance in doubles play, extending their record to 15-0 in dual matches this season. At No. 1 doubles, the tandem of senior Amanda Granson and junior Ellah Nze beat the Indiana pair of Leslie Hureau and Myriam Sopel, 8-3. The Blue Devils were up 6-1, controlling the match and finishing the Hoosiers off in 44 minutes. On court three, the Blue Devils' pair of sophomore Monica Gorny and freshman Jessica Stiles defeated Lindsey Stuckey and Maria Guerreiro of Indiana, 8-5. Duke led the match 3-0, before Indiana was able to fight back at 6-4. Gorny and Stiles closed out the match in 50 minutes to clinch the point for the Blue Devils. No. 9 Yellow Jackets Sweep Past Kentucky, 7-0 The Yellow Jackets opened the day by capturing the doubles point behind three impressive victories. Amanda McDowell and Hillary Davis got things started with an 8-1 win on court three over Elle Coldiron and Nicole Scates. Facing a 7-4 deficit, Irina Falconi and Sasha Krupina stormed back to earn a 9-7 victory on court one over Caroline Lilley and Minnette Pienaar to clinch the point. Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn earned a come-from-behind victory of their own when they beat Megan Broderick and Christine Johnston, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. Falconi continued her hot streak in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 to give the Jackets a 2-0 lead on the Wildcats. The Jackets moved ahead 3-0 when Krupina finished off Broderick, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. html No. 11 Tar Heels Improve To 7-0 With Pair Of Wins UNC wasted little time in taking control against Wisconsin (2-3) in the opener, with Marand and Sophie Grabinski easing to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston matched their teammates with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 to take the point. The top of the Tar Heel lineup did the heavy lifting in singles, as Tsang, Durisic and Marand posted tidy straight-set victories to seal the team victory. Featherston added a straight-set win of her own before De Bruycker rallied from a set down to score a third-set tiebreak victory. The Badgers got the last point of the match with a win at the No. 6 position. Hokies take down ETSU, 5-2 Tech (3-1) took four of the six singles contest for the second-straight match, similar to their 5-2 win over No. 51 Georgia State last weekend. Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) defeated Kelly Holzhausen, 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 matchup. Shannon Betts (Newnan, Ga.) posted another victory in the No. 4 match over Karina Kedzo, winning 6-1, 6-1. Emily Lauten (Marietta, Ga.) defeated Andra Voinea by scores of 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 6 matchup, while Courtney Rauscher (Evans, Ga.) clinched the Hokies’ final singles’ victory over Diana Navrostska in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 10-6. In other singles action, Martha Blakely (Reading, Pa.) fell to Yevgeniya Stupak, 0-6, 0-6 at No. 1 and Yasmin Hamza (Cairo, Egypt) put up a tough match but lost to Paula Jaime 6-1, 2-6, 4-6. No. 6 `Canes Edged by No. 5 Baylor, 4-3 Baylor (3-0) opened the match collecting the all-important doubles point by taking two-of-three positions on the court. Miami (3-1) grabbed the first doubles match when the Hurricanes' team of Anna Bartenstein and Bianca Eichkorn downed Baylor's Taylor Ormond and Carla Lindlar, 8-4, at the second position. The win moved the team of Bartenstein/Eichkorn up to 7-2 on the year, winning their last five matches consecutively. Wake Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision to DePaul Wake Forest played without two of its top players, as sophomore Ryann Cutillo and freshman Kathryn Talbert were forced to watch from the sideline while nursing injuries. As a result, the Demon Deacons were forced to forfeit the number three doubles match and the number six singles match.
