GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Women's Swimming & Diving Team was announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. The 52-member team was voted on by the eight league institutions that sponsor the sport as decided by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee.

North Carolina led all league schools with 22 members on the Golden Anniversary team while Virginia was second with 11 honorees. Clemson had eight individuals selected, followed by NC State with seven, Florida State with two and Duke and Maryland with one apiece.

The ACC's 50th Anniversary Women's Swimming and Diving team, in alphabetical order, is as follows:

Erika Acuff, North Carolina (1997-2001)
First-team All-American in the 400 IM in 1996-97 and 1998-99 and the 200 IM in 1997-98 and honorable-mention in the 400-free relay and 800-free relay in 1996-97,the 400 IM, 200-medley relay, 400-medley relay, 400-free relay and 800-free relay in 1997-98; and the 800-free relay in 1998-99 ... ACC Rookie of the Year in 1997.

Jill Bakehorn, Clemson (1987-1990)
Fifteen-time All American ... holds the Clemson pool record in the 100 back ... four-time All-ACC selection ... ACC Champion in the 400-medley relay in 1988, the 100 and 200 back and the 200 IM in 1989, and the 100 and 200 back in 1990 ... 1988 Olympic Trial Qualifier.

Cami Berrizzi, North Carolina (1981-1984)

Gayle Hegel, North Carolina (1980-1983)
Twenty-three-time first-team All-American in the 100 and 200 breast; 100, 200 and 400 IM; 400-medley relay; 400-free relay; and 800-free relay from 1980 to 1983 ... won 13 ACC titles in those events and the 50 breast and 200-medley relay and was the Most Valuable Swimmer at the 1980 ACC Championships.

Nancy Hogshead, Duke (1981)
Won the 500 and 1650 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 400 IM at the 1981 ACC Championships ... two-time All-America selection ... owns six Duke records ... captured four medals (three gold and one silver) at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, Calif ... the first female inducted into the Duke Sports Hall of Fame in 1994.

Jessi Perruquet, North Carolina (2001)
Won the 200-yard freestyle at the ACC Meet as a freshman in 2001 ... She also earned first-team All-America honors as a freshman in 2001 ... In November of 2001 she broke the long standing UNC record in the 200-yard freestyle.

Amy Pless, North Carolina (1981-1984)
Swam on UNC teams which finished third in the nation in 1981 and 1982, sixth in 1983 and fifth in 1984 ... won ACC championships in the 50 breast and 100 IM in 1981, in the 100 IM in 1982, in the 50 breast in 1983 and in the 200 IM in 1984 ... swam on eight ACC championship relays in her career ... first-team All-American all four years at Carolina and swam on four ACC championship teams.
