GREENSBORO, N.C. – Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Angela Tincher of Virginia Tech headlines the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Tincher, a senior finance major, was given the Mary Garber Award as the top female athlete in the league for the 2007-08 season. In 2008, Tincher, was named the USA Softball National Player of the Year as well as the Honda Award recipient as the top player nationally. Tincher led the Hokies to their first-ever Women’s College World Series appearance while ranking first nationally in both strikeouts and earned run average.

She was also named the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American of the Year in softball, and graduated with a degree in finance. In March, Tincher hurled a no-hitter against the U.S. National Team to help break their 185-game winning streak in preparation for the Bejing Olympic Games.

Ten All-ACC honorees this past season were named to the team as well as five All-ACC Tournament honorees. Seven student-athletes on this year’s team were named to the 2007 list.
