2007 All-ACC Academic Softball Team Announced
July 6, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year Angela Tincher from Virginia Tech is among a trio of All-Americans, nine All-Region honorees and 10 All-ACC performers showcased on the 2007 All-ACC Academic Softball Team, as announced Friday by Commissioner John D. Swofford. In addition, all eight league schools that sponsor softball are represented on the team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. Florida State and Georgia Tech each secured six selections on the 30-member unit, while Virginia Tech placed five. Hokie pitching sensation Tincher headlines as the main attraction, garnering numerous accolades this past season. The junior from Eagle Rock, Va., was instrumental in helping the Hokies capture their first-ever league regular-season and championship titles since the school joined the ACC. Tincher was also tabbed for NFCA Northeast All-Region honors and voted both Academic All-American and Academic All-District by ESPN The Magazine. Leading for the FSU Seminoles are NFCA Southeast All-Region honorees Tiffany McDonald and Carly Wynn, while the Yellow Jackets are paced by NFCA All-American Aileen Morales along with NFCA Southeast All-Region and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American and All-District Whitney Haller. Maryland and NC State each received four nods, with NFCA All-American Amber Jackson highlighting the Terrapin squad. Boston College landed three picks, while rounding out the academic contingent were North Carolina and Virginia with one student-athlete each. This year's academic team also consists of nine student-athletes who collected both All-Region and All-ACC recognition, which includes Boston College's Jenna Macchi and Britney Thompson, Florida State's McDonald, Georgia Tech's Haller and Morales, Maryland's Jackson, NC State's Heather Gelbard, and Virginia Tech's Tincher and Rhodes. The Hokies' Caroline Stolle was a second team All-ACC selection in 2007.
