Head Coach Lisa Navas and NC All-Stars Fall to USA Softball
June 17, 2004 Charlotte, N.C. - NC State head coach Lisa Navas was an assistant coach for the North Carolina All-Star softball team as they faced the USA Softball Women's National Team on the "Aiming for Athens" tour en route to the Olympic Games. The U.S. team improved to 38-0 and pushed its pre-Olympic tour win streak to 152-games dating back to 1996. Navas, who just completed the first season of softball at NC State, was the third base coach as the USA squad won the contest 10-0 in five innings. Navas' NC State team won 32 games in its inaugural campaign, splitting doubleheaders with three ACC opponents on the season, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Maryland. Two Wolfpack recruits were members of the roster, and players from college teams and high school teams in North Carolina joined together for the game against Team USA at Renaissance Park in Charlotte, N.C. The 2004 Women's National Team roster consists of four two-time Olympic gold medalists and six of the 15-member 2000 Olympic Team. Also, 13 of the 17 members of the 2002 World Championship gold medal winning team remain intact.
The National Team recently began a 22-city sweep of the country. The tour started in San Antonio, Texas, and will end in Stratford, Conn., July 17, just days before the U.S. departs for the Olympic Games.
