FSU Standout Natasha Jacob Selected To ESPN The Magazine Softball Academic All-America Team
June 2, 2005 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State junior outfielder Natasha Jacob earned the most prestigious award of her collegiate career Thursday when she was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team, as selected by CoSIDA. Jacob was the only Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) student-athlete selected to the first or second team. "I am thrilled and excited," said Jacob, a native of Coppell, Texas, who owns a sparkling 3.93 GPA. "Academics are my first priority and I share this honor with the Florida State University support staff and university teachers who provide encouragement towards my academic progress on a daily basis." Thirty-two of the nation's top softball student-athletes were named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, a group that is chosen based on both outstanding athletic and academic accomplishments. The achievement sealed a spectacular season for the left fielder, where she led the Seminoles in nearly every statistical category. In fact, Jacob's .359 batting average was 100 points more than the next FSU player in line.
The FSU lead-off slap hitter guided the Seminoles to a 35-28 record in 2005 including a trip to the NCAA Auburn Regional final. She has twice been named a member of the CoSIDA District III Academic All-Region first team (2004, 2005). The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
