Radford Earns NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Honors
May 17, 2000 COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland sophomore Beth Radford (Dunkirk, Md.) was named to the 2000 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mid-Atlantic All Region Second Team, announced May 17. The accolade marks the second time in Radford's collegiate career she was tabbed All-Region. The sophomore was selected to the first team as a freshman in 1999. Radford, Maryland's catcher, led the Terrapins in seven offensive categories for the 2000 season. The sophomore finished the year with a team-high .303 batting average, 50 hits, eight home runs, 35 RBI, 79 total bases, a .479 slugging percentage and two sacrifice flies. Her 35 runs batted in are the fourth-best single-season effort in school history. Radford was also second on the team with 27 runs scored, and third among starters with a .969 fielding percentage. Radford adds the NFCA honor to two other awards this season. The sophomore was named to the All-ACC team in addition to being cited ACC Player of the Week on March 28. Highlights from Radford's 2000 season include a career-long 11-game hit streak established from March 19 to March 30, and a perfect 4-for-4 effort in Maryland's 8-3 victory over Ohio on February 19.
