Burrell, Bettker Receive 2001 ACC All-Tournament Honors
May 14, 2001 RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior centerfielder Michelle Burrell (Owego, N.Y.) and junior right-handed pitcher Amanda Bettker (St. Petersburg, Fla.) were named to the 2001 ACC All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the championship game on Sunday. The pair helped to lead the Terrapins, who entered the tournament as the fifth seed, to a third-place finish. A 2001 All-ACC selection after a stellar regular season, Burrell led the Terps at the plate and in the field for the duration of the conference championships. Offensively, the senior finished the weekend 5-for-14 (.357) with two doubles and a pair of runs scored. Starting all four contests as the captain of the outfield, Burrell was perfect with seven putouts in as many chances. Bettker was incredible in the pitcher's circle, logging more innings than any other hurler in the tournament. The fireballer posted a 2-1 record and a 0.58 weekend ERA in her 24.0 innings, allowing only two earned runs while striking out 15. The all-tournament accolades were the first for both Burrell and Bettker. The Terrapins finished the 2001 season with a 39-23 record.
