Carolina Wins ACC Softball Title
May 13, 2001 The University of North Carolina defeated Florida State, 4-1, on Sunday to win the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball championship at Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh. The title is Carolina's first in ACC softball history. ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player Radara McHugh picked up her third win of the tournament with the complete game victory. Freshman Dionne Street cracked a two-run homer to left field to provide the winning margin. Head coach Donna Papa's Tar Heels are now 37-17-1. McHugh improved to 23-10 on the year with the win. FSU was seeded first and UNC was the second seed in the tournament.
