Georgia Tech's Yee and Johnson Earn ACC Softball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech’s Jen Yee and Tiffany Johnson have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Player and Pitcher of the week for the week of April 27-May 3. Yee’s bat and Johnson’s arm lifted the Yellow Jackets to a two-game sweep over Maryland and the top seed entering this week’s ACC Softball Championship. Yee, a junior from North Delta, British Columbia, Canada went 3-for-4 in the two game set with a pair of home runs to claim Player of the Week honors. In the opening 9-2 win, Yee was 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and a three-run home run. She was then walked twice in game one and three times to open game two. Overall, she slugged 5 RBIs and scored five runs to help Georgia Tech secure the top seed for the league tournament. Yee ranks among the league leaders offensively. Johnson, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., hurled herself into the record books by recording Georgia Tech’s first perfect game since 2005 to earn Pitcher of the Week accolades. The Tech pitcher retired all 15 Terrapins on Saturday in order to post the five-inning perfect game. She dismissed nine at the plate and needed only 61 pitches for the win. Johnson also had only one three-ball count in the game. Georgia Tech will face eighth seeded Virginia on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the third game of the quarterfinals.
