NC State's Campana, Georgia Tech's Adkins and Florida State's Rafter Earn ACC Weekly Softball Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Lindsay Campana and Georgia Tech’s Kristen Adkins have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Pitchers of the week while Florida State’s Kaleigh Rafter has been tabbed as ACC Player of the Week for the week of April 20-26. The trio led their teams to conference series wins last weekend.

Campana, a junior from Templeton, Calif. hurled her first career no-hitter on Saturday in a 3-0 Wolfpack win over Boston College. She went the distance in the win, fanning 12 while walking three. In the second game of the doubleheader Campana went six and two-thirds in relief allowing seven hits and three runs, two earned. She picked up the win to give NC State the series win to close the regular season for the Pack.

Adkins, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, picked up her second weekly honor in three weeks with a pair of wins in Georgia Techs’ series sweep over No. 12 ranked North Carolina. Adkins went the distance in both wins and stymied the Tar Heel offense to only nine hits and two runs in her portion of the series. She also fanned four in the outings. In a midweek series against No. 5 Alabama, Adkins took the loss in the 8-0 Yellow Jacket defeat.

Rafter, a senior from Guelph, Ontario, Canada, led the Seminoles to a three-game sweep over Virginia last weekend. The catcher went 3-for-7 with seven RBIs, a double and a home run. Rafter’s grand slam in game two was FSU’s first of the season. Rafter ranks sixth in the league with 40 RBI and fifth with 10 home runs.

The 2009 ACC Softball Championship starts on Friday, May 8 and runs through the 10th. NC State will host this year’s championship at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Stadium in Raleigh. For more information, please visit theACC.com.
