Jackson, Hamilton Lead Florida State To Sweep Of Weekly ACC Softball Honors Presented By Chevrolet

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State junior Shayla Jackson has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while her teammate Sarah Hamilton, a senior, has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week following their outstanding performances for the period of April 11-17. Jackson drove in 13 runs and Hamilton struck out 38 batters as Florida State went 6-0 on the week, including a series victory at ACC foe Boston College.
A right fielder from Pembroke Pines, Fla., Jackson hit .652, collecting 15 hits, five runs and 13 RBI. She also recorded five extra-base hits with four doubles and a home run. In game one of the doubleheader at Boston College Saturday, Jackson hit her first career over-the-fence home run, which was a grand slam. She finished the contest 4-for-4 at the plate, becoming the first Seminole to tally four hits in a game this season. Jackson drove in five runs, tying for the squad's season high. Both marks were also career bests. The Seminoles went on to win 7-1. She went 3-for-4 in the second game of the doubleheader, driving in three runs, while also recording an outfield assist. Florida State won the second game 11-4, completing the series victory. Jackson finished the week registering hits in all of her six games, including five multi-hit games. She drove in runs in five of the six and had multiple RBIs in four.
Hamilton pitched three complete games on the week, registering a 3-0 mark. The right-hander from Tallahassee, Fla., surrendered just one earned run in 21 innings of work, good for a 0.33 ERA. She opened the week Tuesday against Mercer with a complete game shutout. Hamilton surrendered just two hits and struck out 10 batters as Florida State won 3-0. Facing North Florida Wednesday, Hamilton fanned 14 and allowed just two hits as the Seminoles prevailed 6-1. She wrapped up the week Saturday at Boston College making history by becoming Florida State's career strikeout leader, fanning her 940th batter. She finished the game with 14 strikeouts, her third double-digit performance of the week, as the Seminoles prevailed 7-1. Hamilton is now the all-time program leader with 947 career strikeouts. Opponents hit just .100 against her on the week.
ACC softball action continues Tuesday with three teams in action. Florida State returns to the field Saturday, hosting Maryland in conference play.
