Georgia Tech's Weseman, Florida State's Hamilton, Maryland's Czechner Claim Weekly ACC Softball Honors Presented by Chevrolet

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech junior Kelsi Weseman has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Florida State senior Sarah Hamilton and Maryland freshman Ashley Czechner shared co-Pitcher of the Week accolades presented by Chevrolet for their outstanding performances last week. Weseman drove in seven runs as Georgia Tech went 3-1 on the week. Hamilton pitched her sixth career no-hitter, and Czechner went 11 innings without surrendering a run.
A shortstop from Hutto, Texas, Weseman hit .600, collecting nine hits, six runs and seven RBI. She also recorded five extra-base hits with two doubles and three home runs as Georgia Tech went 3-1 on the week, including a series win at conference foe Virginia Tech. Weseman opened the week against Kennesaw State, going 2-for-4 at the plate and driving in four runs. The Yellow Jackets went on to win 6-1. In game two at Virginia Tech, she started the three-run ninth inning rally, hitting a double off of the center field fence. Georgia Tech prevailed 8-5 in nine. Weseman finished the week going 3-for-3 with a solo home run as the Yellow Jackets topped the Hokies 11-3 and claimed the series victory. She had a 1.333 slugging percentage and .625 on-base percentage for the week.
Hamilton threw her sixth career no-hitter Saturday as Florida State defeated Virginia 8-0 in five innings. She struck out eight and walked just two batters. The right-hander from Tallahassee, Fla., moved to second all-time at FSU in career no-hitters. She followed that performance with another complete game on Sunday as the Seminoles won 6-1 to claim the series victory. Hamilton pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and one unearned run. She fanned 10 batters en route to becoming just the second Seminole to reach 900 career strikeouts. Hamilton needs 31 more to become the program's career leader. She surrendered just one earned run in her 18.2 innings of work and did not allow an extra-base hit in 12 innings against the Cavaliers. Hamilton finished the week 2-1 with a 0.38 ERA.
A right-handed pitcher from Pawleys Island, S.C., Czechner went 3-0 on the week, surrendering no earned runs and three hits in 11 innings of work. She opened the week against Georgetown, pitching a complete game shutout as Maryland won 10-0 in five innings. Czechner struck out seven of the 16 batters she faced and gave up just one hit. In game two of the series against Boston College, she came on in relief, fanning three batters and allowing one hit. The Terrapins went on to win 1-0. Czechner also closed the series finale, pitching four innings of extra play. She struck out five of the 13 batters she faced and limited the Eagles to one hit. Maryland went on to win 4-3 in 10 innings and sweep the series. Czechner finished the week with 15 strikeouts. The 35 batters she faced hit a combined .086 against her.
ACC softball action continues Tuesday as Florida State hosts a doubleheader with Mercer. Georgia Tech hosts Georgia Wednesday and Maryland returns to competition Saturday, welcoming league foe NC State.
