GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State junior third baseman Briana Hamilton and North Carolina sophomore pitcher Lori Spingola have been named the ACC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday. It is the third award of the season for Spingola and the second for Hamilton.
Hamilton recorded her first career multiple-home run game and knocked in four runs on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader against Virginia Tech. The Woodruff, S.C., native scored four runs and drove in seven in the series win over the Hokies, who at the time were in second place in the conference behind the Seminoles.
Spingola picked up two wins and a save in a series sweep at Virginia. The Atlanta, Ga., native struck out 12 batters and only allowed one earned run as she went the distance in the first game for a 3-2 Tar Heel win. In the second game, she threw a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts. In the finale, she entered in relief in the seventh inning in a one-run game and struck out her only batter faced to earn the save.
