Maryland's Carroll, Georgia Tech's Adkins, North Carolina's Spingola Garner Weekly ACC Softball Honors Presented By Chevrolet

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland sophomore Lexi Carroll has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week presented by Chevrolet, while Georgia Tech senior Kristen Adkins and North Carolina freshman Lori Spingola shared co-Pitcher of the Week presented by Chevrolet honors for their outstanding performances last week. Carroll drove in eight runs as the Terrapins won two at conference foe Virginia. Adkins registered a 0.70 ERA and pitched two complete games as the Yellow Jackets swept NC State. Spingola pitched two complete game shutouts against Florida State and finished the week with a 0.79 ERA.
Carroll hit .500 for the week, collecting four hits, four runs and eight RBI. She also recorded two home runs in each of her two games as Maryland completed the series sweep at league opponent Virginia. In the first game Saturday, she hit a two-run round-tripper in the top of the fourth, then drove in three with a homer in the top of the fifth. The Terrapins went on to win 13-0. Later that day the third baseman from Eau Gallie, Fla., led off the second inning with a solo home run before driving in two runs with her fourth round-tripper of the series in the seventh. Maryland prevailed 7-0 to extend its winning streak to 13 games. Carroll finished the week with a 2.000 slugging percentage.
A right-handed pitcher from McKinney, Texas, Adkins went 4-0 on the week, pitching 20 innings and picking up a shutout. She opened the week at Winthrop, pitching six innings in the first game of the doubleheader. Adkins struck out four and did not record an earned run. The Yellow Jackets went on to win 12-2. Adkins pitched a complete game against NC State Saturday, striking out five as Georgia Tech won 8-4. She closed out the week with a shutout of the Wolfpack, fanning three batters and giving up just five hits. The Yellow Jackets claimed the series sweep with a 14-0 victory. Adkins finished the week with a 0.70 ERA and opposing batters hit .192 against her.
Spingola posted a 4-0 mark for the week as North Carolina topped Campbell and completed a series sweep of Florida State. She gave up just three earned runs in 26.2 innings of work for a 0.79 ERA and struck out 20 batters. The Atlanta, Ga., right-hander opened the week by pitching a complete game at Campbell. She allowed just one earned run and struck out six as the Tar Heels prevailed 6-1. Spingola started the series against the Seminoles with the first of her two complete game shutouts on the week. She struck out three as North Carolina claimed a 1-0 victory. Her second shutout came Sunday as she gave up just three hits and fanned five en route to a 4-0 win.
ACC softball action continues Tuesday with a doubleheader. North Carolina travels to Radford Wednesday before hosting Virginia in conference action this weekend. Georgia Tech travels to Georgia Wednesday and faces off against Maryland in College Park, Md., Saturday and Sunday
