GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State's Lindsay Campana and Florida State's Brittany Osmon have been chosen as the Atlantic Coast Conference's Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. For Campana, this is the first weekly honor of the season, while for Osmon, this is the second in a row.
In two starts last week against league-opponent Boston College, Campana recorded her 11th and 12th complete games of the season. On Saturday, she allowed just three hits, with zero walks, as the Wolfpack shut out the Eagles 8-0. Again on Sunday, the Templeton, Calif., sophomore was impressive, keeping the BC batters scoreless in eight innings in a tight 1-0 win for NC State. In the two games, Campana pitched 14.0 innings, allowed zero runs, and struck out 16 batters. She currently leads the league in innings pitched, and owns a 1.71 ERA in 21 appearances this season.
Osmon, a senior first basemen for the Seminoles, was outstanding at the plate for the second week in a row as Florida State recorded a weekend sweep of the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va. In 10 at-bats during the series, the San Diego, Calif., native recorded five hits, including two each in Friday's first game and on Saturday. Osmon registered her league-leading fifth home run of the season in Saturday's 5-1 win, knocked in a total of six RBIs, and also drew three walks against the `Hoos. She currently ranks among the league's top five in nearly every offensive category, and leads all ACC hitters in batting average, RBIs and total bases.
This week, the Seminoles will host a Tuesday double-header against Lipscomb, before traveling to Fullerton, Calif., to face several of the nation's top teams at the Judi Garman Classic over the weekend. The Wolfpack will continue to ease into the conference season, as they host the Virginia Tech Hokies this Friday and Saturday.
