Maryland's Dooley and Takeda, Georgia Tech's Adkins Earn ACC Weekly Softball Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland pitcher Sarah Dooley and outfielder Michelle Takeda as well as Georgia Tech third baseman Kristen Adkins have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher and Co-Players of the Week for the week ending on March 15.

Dooley, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., tallied her first career player of the week honor after posting a 4-0 record in the Maryland Invitational. She worked 25.1 innings in five outings including three complete games and two relief appearances. Dooley allowed just five earned runs and fanned 29 batters while scattering 13 hits.

Takeda, a freshman from Placentia, Calif., earned Co-Player of the Week accolades after posting three home runs in the Maryland Invitational. She hit .400 (6-for-15) with three round-trippers, a double and six RBIs. Takeda also scored eight runs to lead Maryland to a 5-1 record in the tournament hosted by the Terrapins. She now leads Maryland in home runs with six.

Georgia Tech's Adkins, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, also tallied Co-Player of the Week honors with a solid hitting performance against Tennessee Martin. She hit .800 (4-for-5) to lead the league last week in batting. She knocked in five of the nine Yellow Jacket runs as Georgia Tech ran to a 2-0 record on the rain-shortened week.

Georgia Tech will host mid-week doubleheaders against Western Carolina and Winthrop before taking to the road next weekend for a series against Virginia Tech starting on Saturday. Maryland will host North Carolina this weekend to open league play on Saturday afternoon.
