Virginia's Wilburn and Tacke Earn ACC Weekly Softball Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia pitcher Karla Wilburn and first baseman Sarah Tacke have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week for the fourth week of the season. Both players' efforts led the Cavaliers to a 2-0 record against George Washington over the weekend.

Tacke, a junior from Merced, Calif., paced Virginia at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance in the Cavaliers' doubleheader sweep over George Washington on Saturday. She tallied a home run and a triple in each game as well as a walk in the finale. Tacke posted a .800 batting average and an impressive 2.800 slugging percentage. The Cavalier slugger knocked in 10 runs over the series.

Wilburn, a senior from Del Mar, Calif., won her ninth game of the season on Saturday with a 10-0 shutout win over George Washington. She pitched all five innings of the run-rule victory, scattering four hits while striking out eight and not allowing a walk. Wilburn recorded her fourth shutout of the season and improved to 9-1 on the season with a 1.50 ERA.

Virginia will visit George Mason on Tuesday afternoon for a 2 p.m. twin bill. The Cavaliers will then return to Charlottesville for a pair of weekend doubleheaders against Rider on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Lafayette on Sunday at 1 p.m.
