Virginia Tech's Liddle and North Carolina's Spingola Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech junior first baseman Courtney Liddle and North Carolina sophomore pitcher Lori Spingola have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Liddle went 12-for-17 at the plate for a .706 average as the Hokies went 5-0 over the weekend. The Haymarket, Va., native knocked 10 runners in, hit two home runs and three doubles, stole a base, and scored six runs. In the five wins, she did not strike out a single time. Liddle had multiple hits in four of the games and drove in three runs in the wins over St. Louis and UNC Greensboro.
Spingola threw 16.0 innings as the Tar Heels went 3-0 in games in which she pitched. The sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., did not allow a run and struck out 25 of the 65 batters that she faced while only allowing nine hits. She picked up a complete game shutout against North Florida, and then threw nine innings of scoreless ball against Chattanooga and Ohio State one day later.
