TALLAHASSEE, FL - Georgia Tech defeated North Carolina 4-0 at the 2004 ACC Softball Championship, being held at the Seminole Softball Complex on the campus of Florida State University.

Georgia Tech broke open a scoreless game in the fourth inning, posting a 1-0 lead over North Carolina. Senior Tara Knudsen was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and was advanced to second on junior Katie Donovan's sacrifice bunt. Knudsen then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Knudsen went on to steal home to score the game's first run.

The Jackets extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the sixth inning. Junior Kirin Kumar singled to left field and was followed to the plate by Knudsen who also singled. Knudsen advanced to third on an error, while Kumar scored. Donovan came to the plate and drilled a double to left center field, bringing home Knudsen. Donovan advanced to third on a wild pitch and was brought home when sophomore Amy Hosier grounded out and drove in the run. The Yellow Jackets would hold the Tar Heels scoreless over the final two innings and record a 4-0 win.

The top-seeded Florida State Seminoles and fourth-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will meet on Sunday, May 16 at 12:00 pm.

Georgia Tech scored four runs on four hits and committed one error, while North Carolina was held scoreless on two hits and committed three errors.
