2004 ACC Softball Championship Central

TALLAHASSEE, FL - Maryland pounded out 12 hits en route to defeating NC State 6-0 at the 2004 ACC Softball Championship, being held at the Seminole Softball Complex on the campus of Florida State University.

Maryland senior Casey Leiter put the Terrapins on top early, sending the second pitch of the game out of the park.

Senior Monica Cyphert recorded Maryland's second solo home run of the day in the second inning, pushing the Terps' lead to 2-0.

Terrapin junior Crystal Rizzuto increased Maryland's lead to 3-0 when she scored in the bottom of the third inning after reaching base on an error.

Maryland recorded another run in the bottom of the fifth inning, increasing its lead to 4-0. Freshman Keri Lounge led off the inning with a single down the leftfield line. She advanced to second on Rizzuto's sacrifice bunt and was scored by freshman Lindsay Klein's single to center field.

The Terps added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and would go on to win 6-0. Leiter and Cardoza recorded back to back singles before Lounge advanced them into scoring position on her groundout. Rizzuto then came to the plate and send both Leiter and Cardoza home.

Maryland will face Georgia Tech in today's fourth game at 5:30 pm.

Maryland scored six runs on 12 hits and committed two errors, while NC State was held scoreless on three hits and committed one error.
