Georgia Tech Shuts Out NC State 2-0 In ACC Softball Tournament Action
May 12, 2005 Box Score | 2005 ACC Championship Central
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Thanks to a complete game, two-hit shut out by ACC Pitcher of the Year Jessica Sallinger, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets advanced in the winner's bracket of the 2005 ACC Softball Tournament with a 2-0 win over NC State. Junior Amy Hosier went 2-for-2 with two RBI in leading the Yellow Jackets to victory. After three and a half innings of scoreless play between the Yellow Jackets and the Wolfpack, Georgia Tech would counter first plating two runs in the bottom of the fourth. ACC Freshman of the Year Aileen Morales led off with a walk and advanced to second after a Caitlin Lever ground out to the pitcher. Christine Sheridan singled to right placing runners on the corners. With the bases loaded and one out, Shaina Ervin caught Savannah Brown looking at a called strike three for out number two. Then Hosier collected her second hit of the ball game singling to right field and driving in a pair of runs to give Georgia Tech a 2-0 lead. That would be all the support Sallinger would need as she posted her 28th complete game of the season. She held the Wolfpack scoreless over seven innings allowing just two hits while tying an ACC tournament single-game record with ten strikeouts in a seven inning game. The win moves Sallinger to 25-7 on the season, while Ervin falls to 12-14. The Wolfpack hurler was equally impressive in the circle allowing two runs on three hits and striking out four. Georgia Tech will next face the winner of the Virginia/Virginia Tech game on Saturday, May 14 at 12:00 pm, while NC State will move to the loser's bracket and face the winner of Florida State/Maryland on Friday, May 13 at 7:30 pm.
