![]() Virginia Tech Tops Maryland, 3-0 In ACC Softball Championship
May 8, 2009 RALEIGH, N.C. (theACC.com) – Fifth seeded Virginia Tech upended the fourth seeded Maryland Terrapins, 3-0, on Friday night in the ACC Softball Championship Quarterfinals at NC State’s Dail Softball Stadium. The Hokies advance to face top seeded Georgia Tech in Saturday’s second semifinal starting at 3:30 p.m. Two-time defending league champion Virginia Tech has now won seven consecutive games in the ACC Softball Championship dating back to 2007. Virginia Tech improves to 28-27 on the year with the win while Maryland falls to 29-26 in defeat. In the fourth inning, Virginia Tech’s Jessica Everhart delivered a two-out triple and was later plated by Beth Walker’s double to centerfield. An inning later, Erin Ota’s two-out double scored Jenna Rhodes and Mara Hvozdovic to give the Hokies their winning margin Virginia Tech’s Kenzie Roark went the distance and held the Terps offense to only three hits while striking out three and walking one. She improves to 22-17. Maryland’s Kerry Hickey went five and a third innings allowing all three runs off six hits. Sarah Dooley came in and threw an inning and two-thirds of perfect ball to close the game. Dooley suffered the loss to fall to12-10.
