May 8, 2009

RALEIGH, N.C. (theACC.com) – The second seeded Florida State Seminoles took a 2-0 win over seventh seeded Boston College on Friday afternoon in the second game of the ACC Softball Championship at NC State’s Dail Softball Stadium. The win takes Florida State to the semifinals and a meeting with third seeded North Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m.

With the win, Florida State improves to 42-12 while the Eagles fall to 18-33.

Florida State struck first when Carly Wynn doubled to open the bottom of the first and later scored off a wild pitch. The Seminoles doubled their lead in the third as Wynn scored off an RBI single from Michelle Snyder.

The two runs proved to be enough for the Seminoles as ACC Pitcher of the Year Sarah Hamilton and Terese Gober combined for a one-hit shutout. Hamilton went the first five innings and picked up the win, allowing the lone hit in the second inning. She struck out nine in the outing. Gober hurled the remaining two innings and struck out four batters.

Hamilton improves to 18-5 while Boston College’s Taylor Peyton takes the loss to fall to 10-15 on the season.
