May 1, 2008 BC Softball Loses Pitcher's Duel With Providence Providence, R.I. - The Boston College softball team (29-29) put together one run on two hits but fell to Providence College (25-22-2) by a score of 2-1 in a pitcher's duel at Raymond Field Thursday afternoon. Sophomore pitcher Taylor Peyton (13-11) started for the Eagles for the 23rd time this season. She pitched three strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two batters. Freshman pitcher Allison Gage took over in the fourth inning, her 46th appearance of the season. She struck out two batters and allowed one hit against the first six batters she faced. In all, she faced 11 batters, giving up no runs on two hits and struck out two. The Friars earned the early 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning, scoring the run off two hits. PC then took the 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the third inning as its shortstop, Jenna Garcia, homered in the first at-bat of the inning. BC halved the score in the top of the fourth inning off sophomore Dani Weir's homerun to left field. Her homer is the seventh this season and her 29th RBI. Both teams went scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings as each pitcher fell into a groove.
