Softball Scores 10-2 Win Over Dartmouth

The Boston College softball team (18-28, 3-12 ACC) scored a decisive 10-2 victory in six innings over Dartmouth, tying a season-high with 12 hits on the afternoon.

Amy Tunstall led the Eagles on offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in support of Allison Gage (7-11) and Morgan Kidd. Gage pitched four innings for the win, allowing five hits and one unearned run, while Kidd pitched the final two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits, a walk, and two strikeouts.

The Eagles got things going early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Brittany Wilkins was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, and two batters later, Dani Weir reached on an error to put runners on first and third base with one out. Tunstall then recorded her first RBI of the day on a single to centerfield, scoring Wilkins from third base. Blair Destito followed with a single just inside the right field line to drive home Weir.

Dartmouth cut the BC lead to 2-1 with an unearned run in the top of the third inning, and threatened for more with runners on second and third and two outs. But Gage induced a groundout with a full count on the next batter, escaping the inning without any further damage.

Dooley, Anderson Fuel Softball's Doubleheader Sweep

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Sarah Dooley tossed 10 scoreless innings and sophomore Jennifer Anderson blasted a game-winning home run to lead the University of Maryland softball team to a doubleheader sweep of George Washington Tuesday in Robert E. Taylor Stadium. The Terrapins claimed a 2-0 victory in game one and outlasted the Colonials, 2-1, during the nightcap.

Dooley pitched a three-hit shutout during Tuesday's first contest, blanking an opponent for the third time this season and the 10th time of her career, good for sixth in team history. The veteran right-hander from St. Louis struck out five and did not allow a runner to reach third base until the seventh inning. Dooley (14-9) returned to the pitching circle to start game two, contributing three more scoreless frames.

Anderson, a catcher who also hails from St. Louis, broke a 1-1 tie during the fourth inning of game two by driving George Washington pitcher Heidi Penna's offering over the fence in left center field. The solo shot, which proved to be the game-winner, capped a strong performance by Anderson, who also singled, walked and threw out a would-be base stealer at second during the contest.

Walk-off RBI single by Ota lifts Tech to 7-6 win over Appalachian State

BLACKSBURG – Erin Ota’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Virginia Tech softball team to a thrilling 7-6 win over Appalachian State Tuesday night at Tech Softball Park.

In the first inning, Jenna Rhodes reached on an infield single and promptly stole second base. She eventually scored on a wild pitch to give Tech the early lead. In the second inning, Kim Jalm singled and pinch runner Marra Hvozdovic scored on Rhodes’ infield single. Amber Walker also singled and pinch runner Alicia Field scored on a throwing error to make it 3-0.

Appalachian State (25-26) got on the board in the fourth with a single run and the Hokies countered in the bottom half of the inning when Ota reached on a fielding error, allowing Rhodes to score. The Mountaineers picked up three runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning to tie things up before Tech plate two runs in the bottom of the fifth to re-take the lead. Whitney Davis, who reached on an error, scored on yet another ASU error and Walker came home on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Charisse Mariconda.
