ATLANTA - Florida State moved to 5-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference softball standings Saturday after defeating Georgia Tech in a doubleheader at Glenn Field. The Lady Seminoles captured the first game, 5-0, and took the night cap, 8-5. Florida State improved to 27-19-1 overall, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 17-21 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

In the first contest, both starting pitchers controlled the action through the first five innings, with the Lady Seminoles scratching for the contest's first run in the top of the fifth. Left fielder Danielle Cox drove in Kimmy Carter on a sacrifice fly to plate the game's first run.

In top of the sixth, Florida State touched Tech starter Mimi Utt for four runs on four runs on six hits, with designated player Becky Wallace contributing a two-run double as the big blow.

Six different Jackets contributed one hit apiece for Tech, with Erin Hawley and Ellen Styer each contributing a hit in the fourth inning as Tech had its best scoring opportunity stopped when Hawley was throw out at the plate by FSU center fielder Dana Bailey.

Jennifer White picked up the win to move to 12-12 for Florida State, while Mimi Utt fell to 9-13 with the loss.

In the second game, Florida State held off a Tech comeback to win 8-5. The Lady Seminoles moved ahead 6-0 after the first two innings, including four runs in the first inning, three of which were unearned off starter Mimi Utt. Tech chipped away with a run in both the third and fourth innings with center fielder Lauren Schwartz and shortstop Ellen Styer each driving in a run with singles.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Tech catcher Anne Knobbe touched Lady Seminole starter Stacy Venable for a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 6-5. In the top of the seventh inning, Florida State was able to move runners to second and third with two outs before a fielding error by Tech allowed both runners to score moving the lead to 8-5.

FSU's Leslie Malerich picked up her first save by pitching a scoreless final 2-and-one third innings to hold off the Jackets. Left fielder Heather Sumrow went 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot and Styer added two hits and an RBI for Tech. Knobbe's three RBI moved her to 42 for the season, which broke Stephanie Weitman's former record of 41, set in 1995.
