BC's DiMartino Named Soccer America Freshman of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Victoria DiMartino, who led Boston College in scoring and keyed the Eagles to a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title, has been named the 2009 women's national Freshman of the Year by Soccer America. DiMartino, a steady forward who was also named the ACC Freshman of the Year, scored 14 goals and had six assists for 34 points, leading BC to 18 wins and a spot a in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. DiMartino leads six ACC players selected to the Soccer America All-Freshman team and matches older sisters Christina (UCLA, 2005) and Gina (Boston College, 2006) who also made the team in their first collegiate years. Victoria DiMartino is the 11th ACC player to be named Soccer America Freshman of the Year in the award's 24-year history. Joining DiMartino on the first team are one Boston College teammate, midfielder Kristie Mewis, and North Carolina midfielder Amber Brooks. The ACC is represented on the second team by Florida State defender Ines Jaurena, North Carolina midfielder Lucy Bronze and Virginia Tech midfielder Kelly Conheeny.
