FSU's Mami YamaguchiGREENSBORO, N.C. - National recognition for Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer student-athletes continue to roll in, as Florida State's Mami Yamaguchi and North Carolina's Yael Averbuch and Tobin Heath are among 15 semifinalists named to the 2007 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy list.

Yamaguchi, the 2007 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, has been a scoring sensation for the Seminoles. The All-ACC first-team pick from Tokyo, Japan, currently leads the ACC and ranks second in the nation in scoring (2.58 points per game). Through 24 games, the junior forward has registered 11 multi-point performances to lead the ACC. Yamaguchi also garnered All-ACC first-team honors this year and was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team. Florida State needs one more win to make its fourth trip to the NCAA Women's Soccer College Cup in the last five years, including a third straight. The Seminoles will host Connecticut in Friday's NCAA quarterfinal round at 7 p.m.

First team All-ACC members Averbuch (Upper Montclair, N.J.) and Heath (Basking Tobin HeathRidge, N.J.) have played pivotal roles for North Carolina in 2007. The Tar Heels returned to the NCAA Tournament for the 26th consecutive year, only one of two schools to have competed in the national postseason event since its inception in 1982. UNC earned a No. 1 overall seed, but later succumbed to a tough 3-2 loss to Notre Dame in the third round of the NCAA. The midfielders, who combined for eight goals, 11 assists and 27 points for UNC this season, helped the Heels capture their third straight league championship crown and 18th in the last 19 years.

The Big East and Pac-10 led all conferences with four selections apiece, while the ACC garnered three nods. The Big 12, Southeastern, West Coast and Colonial Athletic Association Conferences each placed one to round out the 15-member contingent.

The list will be narrowed down to three finalists on December 14. The three remaining student-athletes will be invited to attend a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, January 11, 2008, with the winner being announced that evening.
