GREENSBORO, N.C. - Seeding and pairings for the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Championship has been set with defending league champion North Carolina as the No. 1 seed for the seventh-straight year. The 20th annual championship will take place this week, beginning Wednesday, November 7, through Sunday, November 11, at Disney's Wide World of Sports® Complex near Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Rounding out the eight-team field this year are No. 1 seed North Carolina, No. 2 seed Wake Forest, No. 3 seed Florida State, No. 4 seed Virginia, No. 5 seed Miami, No. 6 seed Boston College, No. 7 seed Duke and No. 8 seed Clemson.

The Tar Heels posted a 9-1-0 record and accumulated 27 points in league action to earn the top seed. North Carolina finished atop of the regular-season standings for the seventh year in a row and 18th all-time. The bullseye will be on UNC as the Tar Heels begin defense of their league and NCAA crowns. UNC, which captured its 18th national and league championship titles in 2006, opens the tournament against No. 8 seed Clemson at noon on Wednesday.

Seven of the teams (North Carolina, Wake Forest, Florida State, Virginia, Boston College, Duke and Clemson) qualified for the ACC Championship for the third-straight year since the league began utilizing a point system in 2005. Miami will be making its first post-season appearance in the league tournament since joining the ACC four years ago. The Hurricanes, seeded fifth, totaled 14 points in conference play and will face No. 4 seed Virginia in the second contest at 2:30 p.m.

Game three will feature No. 2 seed Wake Forest and No. 7 seed Duke at 5 p.m. Duke went 3-3-4 for 13 points in the ACC race, while the Demon Deacons made an impressive leap in the conference standings in the last day of the regular season on Sunday. Wake Forest defeated Miami to collect 20 points, finishing in a tie for second place with Florida State. The Deacs won the tiebreaker and received the No. 2 seed based on head-to-head competition during the regular season, as Wake Forest posted a 3-2 victory over FSU on October 25.

Florida State and Boston College will conclude the first day of competition with a 7:30 p.m. meeting between the two teams. The Seminoles recorded a 6-2-2 mark for 20 points in the conference race but received the No. 3 seed. Boston College, which went 4-4-2 and totaled 14 points, picked up the sixth seed after succumbing to a tiebreaker against Miami.

Only one other ACC school in this year's tournament has won the coveted league title besides North Carolina, as Virginia clinched the crown in 2004.

Opening day of the ACC Championship will consist of four games on Wednesday, November 7, with the semifinals being held on Friday, November 9, at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Games played on those two days will be webcast on ACCSelect.com.

The championship game will be televised on Sunday, November 11, on Regional Sports Networks at 1 p.m. Check local listing for additional information.
