Florida State's Talonen named ACC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Nov. 4, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State sophomore forward Sanna Talonen has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her performance in last week's final regular-season games. Talonen accounted for three goals and six points as the sixth-ranked Seminoles (14-2-2, 8-1-1) came from behind to earn a 2-2 tie at second-ranked North Carolina and scored a 5-2 win at NC State. FSU rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie UNC with Talonen scoring both goals. Her goal second knotted the score at 2-2 in the 69th minute. It marked only the second time in UNC history - a span of over 700 games - the Tar Heels failed to win a match after leading by two goals or more. Talonen's goal against NC State came on a wide open header off a short cross on the end line from Lauren Switzer with 7:09 to play and proved to be the eventual game-winner as the Seminoles nailed down the No. 2 seed in this week's ACC Championship, which gets under way Wednesday in Cary, N.C.
The Finland native, who was also named National Player of the Week by Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer, now has 14 goals to lead the Seminoles, including at least one in eight of her last nine games.
