![]() Wake Forest's Hutchinson named ACC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Oct. 13, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest senior forward Jill Hutchinson, who keyed ninth-ranked Wake Forest to a 3-0 win over fifth-ranked Florida State last Thursday, has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Hutchinson scored a pair of goals in Wake’s victory, her third multi-goal game of the season and the fourth of her career. The Wayne, Pa., native leads the Demon Deacons with 10 goals and 23 points this season. Hutchinson’s 32 career goals rank second in Wake school history, two shy of the school record. With Wake leading 1-0 in the 57th minute of the FSU match, Hutchinson doubled the lead with a beautiful goal inside the right post. She added her second goal in the 77th minute to make the score 3-0. Hutchinson, who was named to the Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer National Teams of the Week, was also part of a team defensive effort that helped shut out the ACC’s top-scoring offense. The latest Soccer America poll finds six Atlantic Coast Conference teams ranked among the Top 13 and four among the Top 10. North Carolina (11-1-1) holds a No. 3 ranking, followed by Florida State (10-2-1) at No. 6, Boston College (11-2) at No. 7, and Maryland (10-2-1) at No. 10. Virginia Tech (10-3) is ranked 11th and Wake Forest (10-2-1) 13th. This week’s heavy schedule features 10 games involving ACC teams, including nine conference matches. Highlights include Thursday night’s battle between Top-10 teams when Boston College visits Maryland. Other Thursday night action finds Florida State at Clemson, Miami at Duke, and Wake Forest at NC State. Virginia Tech kicks off this week’s action with a non-conference game against Longwood on Wednesday night. North Carolina and Virginia are idle until Saturday afternoon, when they meet at Chapel Hill, N.C. Four more conference games are scheduled Sunday.
