Four ACC matches will be televised this week. Action on Thursday, Oct. 11 will feature a Regional Sports Network broadcast of Virginia Tech at Florida State. Wake Forest at Duke can also be seen on RSN on Sunday, Oct. 14, while ESPN3 will carry Duke's contest at NC State on Thursday and a top-25 matchup of Virginia at Florida State on Sunday.
The ACC continues to dominate the national rankings as eight teams are ranked in at least one top-25 poll this week. Florida State is the consensus No. 1 team in the nation for the fifth consecutive week. It is also the seventh straight week the Seminoles have owned the top spot in the NSCAA poll. FSU is 15-1-0 all-time as the nation's top team. Duke, Maryland and North Carolina follow at No. 6, 8 and 10, respectively in the NSCAA poll, while Virginia (13), Wake Forest (15), Virginia Tech (19) and Boston College (23) round out the group.
Eight teams rank in the Top-30 of the third NCAA RPI released on Oct. 8; Florida State (3), North Carolina (6), Duke (7), Wake Forest (11), Virginia (16), Virginia Tech (18), Boston College (19) and Maryland (26). The RPI, a quantity used to rank sports teams based upon a team's wins and losses and its strength of schedule, is part of the criteria used in making at large selections, seeding and placing teams in the NCAA Championship bracket.
ACC Teams own an impressive 64-14-9 record over non-conference competition.
The ACC boasts six 20-plus point scorers, led by Duke's Laura Weinberg, who owns 33 points (14g, 4a), which is tops in the league and fourth in the nation. Boston College's Kristen Mewis follows with 27 points (10g, 7a), a mark that stands 14th in Division I.
At 12-0-0, Florida State stands as the only unbeaten and untied team in the nation. The Seminoles are off to their best start in school history and set a program record 12-game win streak.
Florida State also owns the nation's top shutout percentage (0.833), goals against average (0.25) and the saves percentage (0.925). Florida State has recorded a program-record seven straight shutouts and has not allowed a goal in 708 minutes - the second longest shutout streak in school history.
With 3.14 goals per game, Duke is third in the nation in scoring offense. ACC Player of the Week Laura Weinberg leads the league and is third nationally averaging 1.0 goals per game. Her 2.36 points per game average ranks sixth in the nation. Fellow Blue Devil Cassie Pecht averages 0.64 assists per game to rank sixth in Division I.
Following a 4-1 win over Oklahoma, Virginia Tech finished its regular season non-conference slate 9-0-0. It is the first time in program history the Hokies have gone undefeated in regular season nonconference play.
Florida State scored a season-high and ACC season high seven goals in a shuout of Clemson on Oct. 4. Seven different Seminoles contributed one goal in the win. Florida State had scored five total goals prior to its seven-goal outburst against the Tigers.
Wake Forest is 11-2-2 (.800) in road matches the past two seasons.
