GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina senior Courtney Jones and Duke freshman Kelly Cobb have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week after each led their teams to a pair of wins, including back-to-back victories over defending NCAA champion and then-No. 1 ranked Notre Dame.

Jones figured in both goals in UNC’s 2-1 win over the Fighting Irish on Friday and then came back two days later to assist on the opening goal in the Tar Heels’ 6-1 win over Houston. Jones, who leads UNC in assists with three, fed Ranee Premji for the opening goal of the game against Notre Dame in the 20th minute. With the game tied in overtime, Jones took a pass from Kealia Ohai and uncorked a shot with pace from 22 yards that found the lower left corner of the net, lifting UNC to a 2-1 win, breaking a three-game home losing streak to Notre Dame and giving the Heels their first win over the Irish at Fetzer Field since 1998. Jones, of Danville, Calif., then assisted on the first goal against the Cougars with a corner kick feed as the Tar Heels went on to beat Houston by a lopsided 6-1 margin.

In the first two collegiate starts, Duke’s Cobb registered a goal in both contests, both game-winning tallies. On Sunday against top-ranked Notre Dame, Cobb made an incredible run down the right side of the field and cut it back, beat a defender and used her left leg to blast in the game-winning goal from 16 yards out. Duke had just evened the match, 1-1, after falling down 1-0 in the first half. Against Houston on Friday, Cobb notched Duke’s first goal in the eighth minute on her way to posting the game-winning goal. Cobb , a native of Chugiak, Alaska, became just the 16th Duke player to collect a goal in her first collegiate start.
