![]() Women's Soccer Captures a 2-1 Victory Against Central Connecticut
Aug. 27, 2006 Freshman forward Gina DiMartino scored her first two collegiate goals to lead Boston College past non-conference Central Connecticut State University, 2-1, today in New Britain, CT. Boston College, the 10th ranked team in the nation, is now 1-1 on the season, while Central Connecticut drops to 0-2. Boston College, coming off a tough 1-0 overtime loss to BU on Friday, pelted the Blue Devils with shots all day long as the Eagles outshot their opponent, 32-4. DiMartino would score the game-winner with eight minute to play in the match. The freshman forward from New York, scored on a rebound in front of the goal as senior midfielder Jenny Maurer and junior forward Kia McNeill were credited with assists on the play. It was DiMartino's second goal of the day in only her second collegiate game. The Blue Devils opened the scoring early in the game. Just four minutes into the play, Blue Devils forward Brittany Emin scored off a feed from Jessica McCavanagh. Boston College tied the game in the 22nd minute when DiMartino struck for her first collegiate goal. McNeill took a shot and DiMartino pounced on the rebound. She placed the ball into the lower left corner for a 1-1 tie. The Eagles continued to attack until DiMartino finally broke through for the game-winner. Boston College will host Northeastern University on Friday, Sept. 1 in the season home opener at 7 p.m. at the Newton Soccer Field. BC 2, CCSU 1
