North Carolina's Long Named ACC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Aug. 26, 2008 GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina midfielder Allie Long has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference's first Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the 2008 season. Long, a senior from Northport, N.Y., led the Tar Heels with a career-high five points on two goals and an assist in last Friday night's 5-1 season-opening win over two-time defending Atlantic 10 Conference champion Charlotte. Long opened the scoring with a goal in the 10th minute of the match and scored her second goal eight minutes into the second half to extend UNC's lead to 3-1. She assisted on Yael Averbuch's goal in the 67th minute that put the Tar Heels in front 4-1.
The two goals matched Long's career high.
