Mid-Summer Update On Duke Women's Soccer

With two weeks remaining before the Blue Devils report to campus on August 10, here is an update on what some of the Duke women's soccer team has been up to this summer. The Blue Devils return nine starters off of its 14-7-1 team.

Senior Casey McCluskey
Casey spent the first part of the summer in Spain for summer school. She spent most of her time in Madrid, but also traveled to Barcelona, Malaga, San Sebastian, Toledo, Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba. She took two courses there-Spanish Art History and Culture of Spain.

For the rest of the summer, Casey will be working in Washington, D.C. as intern for Booz Allen Hamilton in the Global Operations Department.

Junior Carolyn Ford
Carolyn played for the W-league Carolina Dynamo during May and June while in summer school. Since returning to the DC area she is starting at center back or outside back for the Washington Freedom. She recently played at RFK Stadium for Freedom in a doubleheader with DC United versus the men's and women's teams from Nottingham Forest, an English First Division Team.

Junior Kate Seibert
Kate was called on to train with the under-21 U.S. National Team Pool for nine days in June at the Home Depot Center in Carson City, Calif. To train against some of the best players in the U.S. in her age group was a very good experience for her.

After the fall season at Duke, she had foot surgery and did not compete in the spring for the Blue Devils. She was cleared to play in April.

Junior Heidi Hollenbeck
Heidi is playing for the Charlotte Lady Eagles in the W-League. The Lady Eagles are in second place in their division with an 11-2-1 record. She has scored two goals on 14 shots in 12 matches played.

Sophomore's Rebekah Fergusson and Katie Roark
The duo is playing for the Asheville Splash in the W-League. The Splash has registered a 7-4-3 record and is in third place in the Atlantic Division.

Sophomore Sarah McCabe
Sarah is playing with Bradenton in the W-League. In 14 games, Bradenton has posted a 2-11-1 record. She has led her team with six goals, three assists and 15 points.

Sophomore's Darby Kroyer and Lauren Tippets
The duo won the under-19 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship playing for Pleasanton Rage. The Rage defeated GSA '85 Phoenix Red, 2-0, to win their second national championship.

2004 Graduate Kelly Harris
Kelly will be starting law school at the University of Texas in Austin in August. For the summer she is doing an internship for the Advocacy Director at the Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

2004 Graduate Gwendolyn Oxenham
Gwendolyn will be attending Creative Writing School at the University of Notre Dame.

2004 Graduate Thora Helgadottir
Thora has signed with a professional team in Norway and is also playing for Iceland's under-21 National team.
