Two former Terrapins played vital roles in lifting their teams to crucial victories in WUSA action this week as teams jockey for playoff positioning.

Michelle Demko scored the game-winning goal Thursday in the Philadelphia Charge's 2-0 road victory over the Washington Freedom. The goal came in the 44th minute, and was her second of the season to go along with one assist. The 1995 Maryland grad has played in 12 games for the Charge, starting seven in the midfield. At Maryland, Demko garnered All-ACC first team honors in 1995 in helping to lead the Terps to its most successful season at 18-6-0 and first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Emily Janss headed home her first goal of the year Thursday, as her New York Power defeated the Boston Breakers 4-2 to remain in third place and in the hunt for a playoff berth. The game-winning goal came in the 66th minute off a cross from Tiffeny Milbrett. Janss has capped 12 games for the Power, including two starts and has also tallied one assist, which also came against the Breakers on June 6. The 1999 Terrapin graduate captured all-ACC first team honors in her senior season.

Keri Sarver, a 1998 Maryland graduate, has yet to see playing time in her first year with the Washington Freedom. Sarver is the all-time leader in goals, points and assists at Maryland. The forward is hoping to earn playing time in a crowded and talented attack unit, led by international superstars Mia Hamm and Pretinha.
