Hooper Scores Twice In Beat Victory
July 13, 2001 Atlanta Beat forward Charmaine Hooper scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season Thursday night en route to a 3-0 blanking of the New York Power in Uniondale, New York. Hooper, NC State's all-time leading scorer with 145 points from 1987-1990, netted her first goal in the 51st minute on a header past goalkeeper Gao Hong. Hooper would not settle for just one tally as she hammered home another in the 68th minute after powering her way past three defenders to free herself for the shot. Atlanta's record now stands at 7-1-6 (27 points), four points ahead of the Power, who remain in second place with a (6-3-5) record and 23 points.
The Beat's next game is next Thursday, July 19 at Bobby Dodd Stadium when they take on the Bay Area CyberRays. Atlanta defeated the CyberRays earlier this season 1-0 in San Jose, California, courtesy of a Hooper goal.
