COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The next "Top Terp Moment" of the 2003-04 season came when the Maryland women's soccer team upended Clemson at the ACC Tournament. The sixth-seeded underdog Terrapins used two goals from Kimmy Francis to upset third-seeded Clemson, 2-1. The win put the Terps in the semifinals for the second consecutive season and was also Maryland's fourth over a top-25 opponent in the 2003 season.

With her two goals, Francis became the first Maryland player to score two goals in an ACC Tournament game since 1991.

Although the Terps would fall to Florida State in the semifinals, Maryland still earned its eight NCAA Tournament bid in the last nine years. Below is a complete recap from that game, but here is also the box score and photo gallery from that game.

CARY, N.C. - Sophomore leading-scorer Kimmy Francis (Richboro, Pa.) scored a pair of goals to lift No. 25 ranked/No. 6 seeded Maryland to a 2-1 victory over No. 23 ranked/No. 3 seeded Clemson in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon at SAS Soccer Stadium.

Francis became only the second Terp ever to score two goals in an ACC Tournament game. The only other time came in 1991 as Randi Goldblatt scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over Duke in the Quarterfinals.

Maryland jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Francis scored in the 30th minute. Francis slotted a ball through a maze of Clemson defenders which screened goalkeeper Lauren Whitt as the ball went into the lower left corner.

The Terps continued to mount pressure in the second half. Francis converted for her second goal of the game and ninth of the season as she headed a beautiful cross from Ali Andrzejewski (Lutherville, Md.) to beat Clemson keeper Lauren Whitt in the 53rd minute. The play began with senior captain Lindsay Givens (Downingtown, Pa.) sending the ball up to Andrzejewski.

Clemson got on the board as Amanda Garcia scored in the 79th minute as her shot from 17 yards beat Maryland goalkeeper Kristen Barnhill (Charlottesville, Va.) just inside the left post.

Maryland has now won four of its last five games overall and is in prime position for its eight NCAA berth in the last nine years.

The Terps defense headed by Barnhill, Givens, All-ACC Freshman member Ashly Kennedy (Edgewater, Md.), Lauren Krasko (Grasonville, Md.), Jennifer Lovecchio (Vineland, N.J.) and Lindsay Niehaus (Cincinnati, Ohio) has not allowed an opponent to score more than one goal over its last eight games. Barnhill made six saves in Wednesday's win.
