June 30, 1999

ATLANTA - Women's soccer star Mia Hamm and volleyball cover girl Gabrielle Reece are featured on Monday's (July 5) edition of FOX Sports Rewind. Hosted by Van Earl Wright, at 5:30 p.m. EDT on FOX Sports Net South. The program re-airs Tuesday, July 6, at 4 and 7 p.m. Hamm, who played collegiately at North Carolina, and Reece, who starred at Florida State, are arguably the most famous women in their respective sports.

Hamm was named by People magazine (1997) as one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World." Born in Selma, Ala., she moved around a lot as a child but did not let her "Air Force brat" status stop her from joining the U.S. National Soccer Team at the age of 15. Hamm is still the youngest member ever on that elite squad.

She went on to attend UNC and earned a degree in political science, while leading the Tar Heels to four NCAA championships. Possessing major endorsement contracts with several national corporations, Hamm leads the United States team currently playing in the best-attended women's World Cup competition on record. She was also a member of the U.S.'s gold medal-winning club at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Upon completing her honor-laden FSU volleyball career, Reece moved into the professional arena, where she has more than succeeded. Last fall, she led Team Nike to the Tour Championship and earned her second WBVL Offensive Player of the Year award.

Reece was named one of the world's 50 most beautiful people by Elle magazine, and she serves as the spokesperson for Coppertone skin products. She was inducted into FSU's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997, and she remains active in enhancing the role Seminole women's athletics plays at the University. Reece has also seen her career expand to include acting and modeling.
