Suddes Returns To Wake Forest As Aide
June 21, 2001 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest University women's soccer head coach Tony da Luz announced today that former player Meghan Suddes has joined the Demon Deacon coaching staff. Filling the vacancy left after four-year aide Kelly Walbert Cagle resigned to join the Atlanta Beat in the WUSA, Suddes joins second year assistant coach Skip Thorp to complete da Luz's cabinet. "Bringing Meghan in gives us a good level of continuity because she played for me for four years, two at USD and two here," said da Luz. "She knows the system, knows what I expect and she brings a lot of positive energy. I am really happy with our staff and we're in a great position." Suddes, a 1998 graduate from Wake Forest, played four seasons for da Luz, two years at San Diego and two years at Wake Forest. A skilled forward for the Demon Deacons in 1997 and 1998, Suddes scored 11 goals and recorded four assists at Wake Forest, totaling 24 goals and eight assists in her career. Voted the Freshman of the Year for Toreros, Suddes scored a pair of goals against Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament her sophomore year. Leading the team in scoring her second year at San Diego, Suddes was ranked ninth in the West Coast Conference with 10 goals. Suddes will be help in recruiting at Wake Forest, assist in practice plans and academic supervision. She will also oversee team travel and team building exercises.
Born in South Bend, IN, and raised in Dublin, OH, Suddes graduated from
Wake Forest University in 1998 with a degree in Communications. She has
spent the last few years working for a company in Columbus, OH, that
provides team building challenge courses for corporations and college
athletic teams. Suddes has also served as the head coach for the Ohio
Premier Soccer Club.
