Duke Women's Soccer Announces 2005 Schedule

DURHAM, N.C.-- Duke Women's Soccer head coach Robbie Church released the 2005 women's soccer schedule on Tuesday, which includes matches against 12 squads who advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2004. The Blue Devils stand ready though, as they return nine of 10 starters and 24 letterwinners in all from a squad that collected a 15-8 record last year and advanced NCAA Tournament final 16.
The Blue Devils kick off the season on August 26, hosting UNC-Greensboro before traveling to William & Mary. Duke will then head down Tobacco Road to Chapel Hill to compete in the UNC Nike Tournament, playing Yale and Davidson over Labor Day weekend. The Blue Devils will also host the annual Duke Adidas Classic, which will feature NCAA Tournament teams North Carolina, San Diego and UAB. The Classic will be played on September 16 and 18 at Koskinen Stadium, with two games being played on each day.
In ACC action, Duke will again face some of the best teams in the nation, as eight squads advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year, including new arrival Boston College. Duke will open ACC play hosting Virginia Tech on Sept. 22, and will also take on Virginia, Wake Forest, Maryland, and Miami at home, and will travel to Boston College, N.C. State, North Carolina, Clemson, and Florida State.
Duke's 2005 opponents who qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year include William & Mary, Yale, UAB, Sand Diego, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Boston College, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Maryland, Clemson, and Florida State.
The Blue Devils posted a 15-8 overall record in 2004 and advanced to the final 16 of the NCAA Tournament before falling to UCLA, 2-0. The Blue Devils will return 10 of 11 starters and welcome another stellar recruiting class for head coach Robbie Church. Church enters his fifth year as the head coach of the Blue Devils and owns a 46-34-4 record.
