Dorrance, Akers Headline Soccer Clinic June 7
May 30, 2001 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Michelle Akers, the world's highest-decorated woman player, and soccer's most dominant coach, the Tar Heels' own Anson Dorrance, kick off a one-of-a-kind series of events benefiting Soccer Outreach International (SOI), a nonprofit organization founded by Akers with the mission to seek out and encourage kids of all nations to become leaders of quality character, dynamic faith, and clear purpose through the game of soccer. No event can match the quality of instruction and positive environment. This event is a dynamic instructional clinic hosted by strong role models providing youth leadership training, inspiration and player development, including shooting, passing receiving, heading, dribbling, speed, agility, power and strength training.
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2001 WHERE: WRAL Soccer Center Fields Raleigh, N.C.
WHO: -- Michelle Akers, FIFA's Player of the Century, two-time World Champion, Olympic Gold medallist, founder of SOI and WUSA Founding Member.. -- Anson Dorrance, Head Coach of the 16-time National Champion UNC Tar Heels and coach of the '91 World Champion US Women's National Team. -- Desmond Armstrong, former U.S. Men's National Team player and Soccer in the Streets director. -- Stars from the Carolina Courage of the new WUSA. -- Steve Slain, Dir. of Health & Fitness for Sports Specific Training Group and former strength and conditioning coach for US Women's National Soccer. -- Joe Dalton, SOI Dir. of Camps and Clinics, '84 NSCAA MVP, '93 FYSA Coach of the Year, and a former professional goalkeeper. -- A host of premiere coaches and players from the region.
WHAT: Open to boys and girls of all skill levels, ages 7 to 17. Cost is $50 per player.
Each player should bring a ball marked with
his/her name, soccer gear, inclement weather clothes, and a snack or
small lunch.
