CARSON, CALIF.--Duke University women's soccer team members Lorraine Quinn and Christie McDonald traveled out to Carson, Calif., this weekend to participate in the United States Women's National Team's largest-ever training camp from May 22-28 at the Home Depot Center. The Blue Devil duo will train with the U.S. U-20 team along with 30 other players.

The U-20 team will train along with 32 members of the U-21 team also. This will mark the first training camp for the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team since the move from U-19s after FIFA shifted the age group of its only youth world championship for women up a year. It will also give new U.S. U-20 head coach Tim Schulz a first look at his pool as he begins to form the team that will attempt to qualify for the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women's World Championship to be held in Russia. Several of the players in camp with the U-21s are also age-eligible for the U-20s (which feature players born on or after Jan. 1, 1986).

Quinn, a Farmingdale, N.Y., native, started all 23 contests and collected three goals, five assists and one game-winning goal. The rising sophomore will head a key group of midfielders for the Blue Devils in 2005.

McDonald will be a freshman at Duke next season out of Newnan, Ga. A 5-8 forward, McDonald registered 81 goals and 31 assists over her first three years of high school soccer. She was a 2004 NSCAA/adidas Youth Girls All-America and Scholar All-America.

The U-20s and U-21s will be split into two teams per age group with the squads playing a mini-tournament of 90-minute matches on May 24, 26 and 27. Jillian Ellis, who coached the U.S. U-21s to the Nordic Cup title in 2000, will take the reins of the USA's oldest youth team from Greg Ryan, who moves aside to focus on the full Women's National Team. Ellis will coach the team in this camp, in another event in June and then at the Nordic Cup being held in mid-July in Sweden.

Duke posted a 15-8 overall record in 2004 and advanced to the final 16 of the NCAA Tournament before falling to UCLA, 2-0. The Blue Devils will return 10 of 11 starters and welcome another stellar recruiting class for head coach Robbie Church.
