Aaron Fenton and Casey McCluskey have been named Duke University's top male and female senior student-athletes, announced on Monday by department officials.

Fenton, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., has helped the Blue Devil men's lacrosse team to a school record 14 wins this season along with the ACC regular season title and a current national ranking of number two. The senior goalkeeper leads the league in both goals against average (6.62) and save percentage (.628) and received All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament honors. Duke enters the 2005 NCAA Tournament as the number two seed, and will host Fairfield on Saturday at 1 p.m.

"We could not be more proud of Aaron," said Duke head men's lacrosse coach Mike Pressler. "This is a well-deserved and very prestigious honor. Aaron put in his time, waiting in the wings for his chance and he seized the opportunity over the past two seasons. He has played a very large role in our team's success this year."

After guiding Duke's women's soccer squad to a 15-8 overall record and berth in the NCAA Tournament, McCluskey received ACC Offensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-America honors. A four-time First Team All-ACC selection, the Springfield, Va., product paced the 2004 Blue Devils in scoring with 40 total points on 16 goals and eight assists, and finished her career with 95 points on 40 goals and 15 assists.

"We are very excited for Casey to get this award," said Duke head women's soccer coach Robbie Church. "She had a fantastic year for us both on and off the field. Casey has received many honors since the season concluded, but I think this is the highlight. We are very excited for her because we know how much hard work she has put into both soccer and academics. We are glad she has been rewarded for her efforts."
