Duke's Dallis Selected To Participate In 2000 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference

INDIANAPOLIS - Duke junior Isis Dallis (Marlboro, Mass.) has been selected to participate in the fourth annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference to be held May 28 to June 1, 2000 at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Dallis, a member of the Blue Devil women's soccer team, was chosen from a field of 885 student-athlete nominations. A goalkeeper and three-year starter for the Blue Devils, she has helped lead the team to two NCAA appearances during her first three seasons. The 1997 ACC Rookie of the Year, Dallis' 12 career shutouts rank third and her 214 career saves rank second on Duke's all-time lists. She also has a career goals-against-average of 1.94 which ranks sixth all-time at Duke. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Dallis is involved in several activities on campus and in the Durham community. Double-majoring in Sociology and African-American Studies, she has appeared on the ACC Honor Roll the last two seasons. Dallis is a member of the Duke Student-Athlete Advisory Council and volunteers with the GTE Read with the Blue Devils program. She also helps lead soccer clinics for the Girl Scouts and area youth soccer leagues. The mission of the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference is, through challenging and thought-provoking dialogue and activities, to provide a diverse group of student-athletes an opportunity to take an active leadership role on their campuses and in their communities. Through this conference, participants will have the opportunity to enhance their communication skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills, and to promote better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. A total of 353 male and female student-athletes, representing all NCAA divisions, 22 different sports and over 20 countries, have been invited to attend the 2000 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference. Student-athletes were nominated from NCAA member institutions that participate in the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program.
