WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team defeated Florida State, but fell to Duke and North Carolina, wrapping up spring play at the ACC tournament this past weekend at the Cary Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.

Opening the weekend, the Deacs faced Duke and played competitively with Keisha Garrick and Nichole Lecznar guiding the team from the back. Keeping the game scoreless, the teams moved onto penalty kicks, where Duke advanced as the winner. The last time the Deacs met with the Blue Devils was in the ACC tournament, where Duke won, 3-0.

Moving on to the next round, Wake faced North Carolina. Early jitters led to three quick goals by the Tar Heels and the Deacs were unable to make up the difference.

Next facing Florida State, the Deacs redeemed themselves, with Katie Kokkinos scoring 36 seconds into the game off a pass from Lindsey Jaco. Putting Wake up by two, Sarah Kozey tapped it in off a header from Jaco. Kozey secured the win for the Deacs as she scored again off a pass from Elizabeth Remy.

"The tournament was a tough challenge for us, playing all three games back to back after leaving Winston-Salem at 6 a.m." said head coach Tony da Luz. "I am encouraged by our performances this spring. Our team is really coming together and I feel confident that this fall is going to be a special season for Wake Forest women's soccer."
