Wake Forest Women's Soccer Wins Two, Ties One, In Spring Action
April 11, 2005 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Freshman Maggie Horne netted two goals along with one assist as the Wake Forest women's soccer team defeated East Carolina and Old Dominion, while tying Florida, 1-1, this past weekend in spring soccer action at Methodist College. Wake opened up the weekend with Florida, where the Gators jumped out to an early lead about 10 minutes into the game. Rallying back, sophomore Elizabeth Remy broke into the box and hit a perfect cross to Horne, who then buried it in the back of the net. Despite controlling the majority of the game, the score remained at 1-1. Against Old Dominion, the Deacs again controlled the majority of the game and put in the first two goals. Katherine Skarbeck, a freshman out of Louisville, Ky., scored the first after a pass from Horne. Katie Kokkinos put the Deacs up by one more with a left-footed shot that sailed to the far post after a pass from fellow freshman Ashley Spooner. In the final game of the weekend against the Pirates, Remy scored first with a shot directly off a corner and Horne followed it up with an unassisted goal after cutting two players at the top of the 18.
