CARY, N.C. - Top-seeded North Carolina defeated second-seeded Florida State by a score of 3-2 at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C., to win the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Championship. 3687 fans were on hand to watch the Tar Heels win their 15th consecutive ACC women's soccer title. North Carolina improves its record to 21-0-0, while Florida State falls to 13-7-1 this season.

In the seventh minute of the game, Florida State's Kelly Rowland scored her second goal of the Championship on an assist by India Trotter to put the Seminoles up 1-0 over the Tar Heels. Rowland's first goal of the Championship was the game winner over Maryland that advanced the Seminoles to today's match. North Carolina tied the game 1-1 on Maggie Tomecka's header from Catherine Reddick at 12:55. The Seminoles took the lead at 27:27 on Rowland's second goal of the game. Camie Bybee and Katie Beal assisted on the score. Florida State's 2-1 lead going into halftime marks the first time since 1994 that North Carolina has allowed two goals in the final game of the ACC Championship.

North Carolina's Kendall Fletcher scored the first goal of the second period to tie the match at 2-2. Lindsay Tarpley and Jordan Walker assisted on the play. The assist was Tarpley's fifth of the Championship, which ties the record for most assists in a Championship, established by teammate Alyssa Ramsey last year. Reddick scored on a penalty kick at 85:46 to seal the North Carolina victory (3-2).
